RTP Wins Prestigious Communications Arts Award for 2003
Award Recognizes Outstanding Innovation in
Web Design for Interactive Advertising
October 23, 2003, Avon, CO - Resort Technology Partners (RTP), a leading provider of internet and software solutions for the resort, recreation, sports retail and hospitality industries, announced today that is has been named a winner of the 2003 Communications Arts awards for its interactive advertising design. The award recognizes outstanding innovation and unique accomplishments through web design and technology. RTP won the award for its interactive map design of Vail Resorts' Golden Peak Terrain Park. The awards were announced in the September/October 2003 issues of Communications Arts Magazine.
"We are honored and thrilled to win this award," said Betty Harwood, Vice President, Internet Solutions, RTP. "This was such a fun project for us. Vail's direction for the site was to create an interactive piece that would help attract 18 - 25 year old snowboarders, but Vail give us the creative freedom to conceptualize and design the site."
The interactive, Flash site, which uses some of the latest technologies, places visitors inside Vail's Golden Peak Terrain Park, enabling them to experience the varying terrain of the park. Utilizing such technologies as Swift and Flash MX, visitors to the site are able to view full-motion video of riders going down the mountain and performing various snowboarding tricks and jumps. To further enhance the reality of the site, a soundscape was created that captures the feelings of a day in the park. The overall effect gives visitors the sense of motion and reality, and a feeling that they are experiencing a run down the mountain.
"The feedback we've received on the site has been great," said Chris Jarnot, Vice President of Marketing for Vail Resorts. "RTP did a tremendous job of providing snowboarders and freeskiers as close to a real-life experience as they can have before they visit Vail's park, and they presented it in a way that is very intuitive and easy to use."
Kristina Kremer, principal and co-founder of The Speared Peanut, a Houston- based design firm, and one of the 7 members of the distinguished Communications Arts jury, put it best, "I loved it and I don't even snowboard. I'm so over the word hip, but it's all that and more without being cliché and obnoxious. Navigating this site was not a only a breeze, but an experience - I explored every nook and cranny."
The site, which has received approximately 10,000 visitors since going live in August 2002, can be viewed at http://www.commarts.com/ca/interactive/cai03/35_ia03.html
